The Amazing Race has a chance to make Emmy history this year as they vie for their 6th straight Emmy award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. No television program has won six consecutive Emmys in the series category.

Phil Keoghan, however, failed to make the cut for the new Reality/Reality-Competition Program Host category.

FloZa Six OutStanding Reality Competition Emmy's IN A ROW! 6 Aug 3 2008, 9:16 AM EDT by dancequeen117x

If the Amazing Race can win The Outstanding Reality Competition Program Emmy for the sixth consecutive time, it would break a record in which only 3 shows have reached five in a row and two have failed to get six. The current record holder is FRASIER which won from 1994-1998. FRASIER is said to have broken a curse in which only a couple series reached four in a row. These Series include:

The Dick Van Dyke Show (1963-1966)
Hill Street Blues (1981-1984)
The West Wing (2000-2003) (achieved after FRASIER won 5 in a row)

Since FRASIER broke the curse. Only these shows have gone on to win 5 in a row:
Late Show with David Letterman (1998-2002)
The Daily Show, Comedy Central (2003-2007) (Which will also go for six in a row in 2008)

It seems likely that the record will be stretched to this year as The Daily Show, Comedy Central and The Amazing Race are again nominated in their respective categories. Only one question remains. Will both shows hold the record after 23rd, or will one be the clear dominator. The Daily Show is coming off of an admittedly week season while the amazing race only aired one version of the show in the past season for a number o reasons. Should both shows lose the Emmy this year, a new curse will have formed with 4 shows achieving the 5 consecutive Emmy mark and none able to grasp that 6th Emmy. Just another reason to watch the Emmys!

-This is an article that was in my local paper after the nominations were announced. I saved it by pasting it into word so I could print it to show people. When I went back to my towns News Paper website, I found that they had already recycled the link for an article on a house fire. So you’ll just have to take my word for all of these facts! The article said we might not have a shot because we only aired one season. But we know that it was one of the best and that we are going to win the Emmy once again. (I hope the Daily Show Loses, that way we are the only show to get 6 in a row)
